KRTV began broadcasting television in the Great Falls, Montana, area on June 27, 1958. That same day, high winds destroyed its broadcasting antenna, and the station was off the air until October 5, 1958. Television reporter in Great Falls, Mont. A native of Helena, Norma Beatty Ashby graduated from the University of Montana with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism. She lived in New York City for four years, working for Life Magazine and MD Medical News-magazine. In 1961 Ashby moved to Great Falls where she was hired by KRTV as hostess of the daily show, "Today in Montana."
